Dec News

Article written by Gabriel Nagel

Greetings Climate Activists!

We have some exciting things to share with you, I tried to keep it brief, so stick around for a few minutes and read through. We are on the path to making change!

Connections and Support

  • Students attended the DPS Student Cabinet meeting with Superintendent Marrero and will attend in the new year as well.

  • Our members Gabriel Nagel and Layla Jurow met with Dr. Carrie Olson and Dr. Scott Baldermann, as we are now pushing to pass the Sustainability "End" Statement that the Board of Education would have to uphold, essentially putting all that we've worked for into place!

  • We are soon to set up a meeting with the Director at Large, Scott Esserman to move the End statements to the top of the board's agenda!

  • We had the honor of welcoming some new faces to our meeting this past week, thank you to those of you who are helping us connect with City Council members!

Public Comment

We made a strong appearance at December's public comment (You can skip forward to 1:45:55; It lasts about 8 minutes), where we presented in front of the DPS Board of Education pushing for them to pass the End statements as described above so the district can launch into sustainable action! As a direct result, Director Esserman responded to one of our earlier emails happily agreeing to a meeting!

Website Updates

We are very excited to announce our website is up and running! Check it out at www.dpsclimateaction.org. It has made a lot of progress since the original:

You Matter

Our mailing list is growing, things are being pushed forward, our voices are being heard and it's thanks to you!

Keep talking about this work that you are supporting and/or engaging in, we are working to make Denver a national leader in sustainability. Talk to your friends, school leaders, parent groups, it's going to take all of this. Every little conversation you have about why protecting the earth matters goes a long way.

  • Share our website, petition, and a little kindness :)

  • Let us know if you have connections — we are looking to again be involved with local news coverage to really get this work out there

  • Send us your feedback! We value our supporters' voices

Come attend our next meeting on Jan 12th, 2022, more details to come on that in the new year. Thank you so much, and from all of us on the team, we wish you happy holidays!
