Hitting the Press

Chalkbeat Colorado

Chalkbeat, a non-profit news organization that covers education in America, featured a story on DPS Students for Climate Action and the process of creating school-wide climate policy. They interviewed Gabriel Nagel on the process of going from resolution to policy and incorporating climate action into schools at a community level. Check it out here! “Denver Public Schools has one electric school bus, solar panels in 46 locations, and 126 school and community gardens. But students are pushing the district to do more and become a national leader on climate action, sustainability, and environmental justice.”

Electric School Bus Plan

Our inboxes are full of requests to speak at events around town. On March 23rd, Mariah Rosensweig spoke to support Gov. Polis' proposed budget for electric school buses.

This not only means electric school buses for DPS but for any school district or charter school that applies for the grant program! (Which would make Colorado a national leader in the electrification of our school bus fleet) Like the Colorado Energy Office said, “For many children, their highest exposure to pollution comes on and around dirty diesel buses; switching to electric completely eliminates this exposure. Added to this, electric buses will save school districts on fuel and maintenance costs.”

Included in this proposed budget Governor Polis also wants to reduce industrial pollution, a rebate program for electric bikes, replace diesel trucks, oil, and gas monitoring programs, and RTD passes for state employees. With that said, we need your support!

Find your legislator and write them a brief letter about the budget and why you care! They need to hear from us that this budget is imperative!

Hello, my name is ____, and I'm a ____. I support the Colorado budget for electric school buses proposed by Gov. Jared Polis because _____.
